Blisters, sore feet and 16(?) hours walking - but all for a good cause
I’ve been training for a charity walk recently and wanted to let you know about it for obvious reasons
It’s all in aid of the school that my seven year old daughter Olivia’s classmate Jaspar attends. They are great friends and as far as they are all concerned, Jaspar is just another student in their class. He is just another student and it is right that he should be seen as an equal by his classmates. However, Jaspar spends two days a week in Olivia’s class as the other three are spent in a local, independent school which supports children with physical disabilities as Jaspar has cerebral palsy.
I am good friends with Jaspar’s mum and dad - Max and Filipa. Last year, Max and a bunch of other parents and friends of Max did the three peaks challenge (three biggest mountains in the UK in 24 hours) to raise funds for Jaspar’s school.
I was very impressed by the camaraderie it generated and it sounded like they had a lot of fun so when they decided to do another challenge this year, I was determined not to miss out.
This year the challenge is to walk part of Hadrian’s Way in a single day which will be 50 miles in one day. We have already had a trial walk of 25 miles in seven hours which stretched most of us to the limit.
On this basis, I am guessing it would take us at least 16 hours to do 50 miles, assuming we managed to finish.
I’d very grateful if you would offer your support in the form of a donation, big or small.
Here are some examples of what a donation can provide:
£5 - two-handed cup or picture book
£20 - one parent and child session
£50 - a home visit or switch access computer game
£100 - a ladder back chair or new reading scheme
I would be hugely grateful if you would make a donation of any size to Jaspar’s school.
If you have found my site and free eBooks useful, consider it a way of paying me back.
If you’d like to donate any sum, big or small, please click here.
And don’t worry, you will hear all about the walk whether you want to or not
