I have been mentoring individuals who I have met through my blog for a couple of years. Initially, I provided some free mentoring as an experiment and have progressed to providing a paid service for a few individuals who have approached me.

As you may know, I have also completed delivering my first training course (Mastering Use Cases) and am preparing for another in a few months time.
I’ve reflected on all of this and realised that I produced this course based on an expectation there is a demand and feedback from blog readers but have failed to really understand the needs of business analysts.
This is a poor error for a business analyst so I have decided to go back to basics and aim to understand two things:
i) what are the problems that business analysts face every day? what is it that really bugs them?
(i.e. what are your objectives?)
ii) if the solution to this involves professional development, how is that best delivered to suit their circumstances?
this covers things such as convenience, available time, training style, instructor access etc
(i.e. what are your constraints?)
Initially, I have designed a survey to get the answers to these questions.
I plan to follow this up by interviewing some of the respondents to really dig into the details and improve my understanding.
