Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course suitable for me?

This course is aimed at business analysts with at least 2 years experience. You will recognize the meaning of the words such as stakeholder and understand the software development life cycle at a high level.
You will need to have 3 to 4 hours available per week with access to the internet to take the lessons and tackle case study assignments.
You will also need to be available every week during the course for a one hour tutorial at 6pm (EST). It is not essential to attend this session every week as it is recorded and is used to revisit lessons taken during the week.
The course is appropriate if you can attend most of these sessions.
If you have had no experience in business analysis, I wouldn’t recommend you take this course.

Does it provide real world experience?

The course has been designed to follow the development of a use case model through a typical project. You are shown how to apply use case techniques to resolve the challenges and frustrations of a real project.

What if am not doing use case modeling at the moment but expect to do it in the future?

You should only take this course if you are going to apply use case techniques within a year.

Is online training as good as classroom training?

Some more progressive universities provide a full curriculum online. However, the truth is online training is still too new and the educational professionals have differing views about the effectiveness of online training.
However, it does have some clear advantages:
- choose your pace

- access the material at any time and any place which has internet access

- no loss of income or vacation, unlike classroom courses

- as most material is not presented by the instructor he/she can focus on student

- reflect on the course material during work time

- apply what you have learned at work and bring new questions to the course

Will use case modeling work in my organization?

The developers and testers must buy in, see the benefit and commit to using the use case model as the primary requirements document.
You can explain the benefits to the business stakeholders but, primarily, it is how you apply the tool which will drive the success with the business stakeholders.
The course will show you why use case modeling is better than the alternatives so you can sell it in your organization.

If your organization is not committed to following the use case approach, don’t take this course as you will learn the techniques and may not apply them for some time. You will benefit most if you apply the lessons within a year of completing the course.
